The clashes occurred although a ban enforced by Amsterdam’s Mayor had enforced a ban on public demonstrations to avoid any kind of escalation. There were reports that local police were in heavy deployment but couldn’t avoid the clash. Amsterdam Police, though, have detained miscreants, and questions on the standard of security have been raised.
How Paris is reacting to the clashes
In Paris, the game has already received considerable attention due to the events of the previous week. In addition, it has been reported that French President Emmanuel Macron will likely be present in the stadium to watch the game. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office has requested that its citizens avoid attending any cultural or sporting event involving Israel.
According to the statement, Israeli intelligence has information on groups that support Palestine, causing harm to the Israeli supporters. Paris police chief Laurent Nunez noted that while there are tensions about the game, he maintained that authorities will “not tolerate” any kind of disobedience or violence. Nunez further observed that a summer Olympics in Paris had fans coming from all parts of the world and had peacefully celebrated sports.
With the Geopolitical climate, many eyes are on how the games at Paris will go, given their brilliant conduct during the 2024 Olympics. Many commentators have noted that Macron’s presence is to act in solidarity against anti-Semitism and support sports.
