Is stock market open today? Special Muhurat Trading time on 1 November 2024

New Delhi: Normal trading will be closed in the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Exchange (NSE) on Friday, November 1, 2024. It basically means all activity, be it in the equities, equity derivatives, and securities lending and borrowing (SLB) will remain closed. All operations in the currency derivatives will also be suspended on account of Diwali. But both exchanges will open for a special one-hour trading session in the evening between 6 and 7 will be held on Friday.

According to reports, operations will be closed in commodity derivatives and electronic gold receipts domains between 9:00 in the morning and 5:00 in the evening. It will begin at 5:00 PM in the evening session. Therefore, commodity exchanges – Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) and National Commodity Exchange (NCDEX) – will not function.

Special Muhurat Trading time 2024

However, the investor community will be looking forward to the special Muhurat Trading hour in the evening. It will ceremonially kick of Samvat 2081, the investment year that is traditionally followed in the stock markets in India.

All major stock exchange indices closed in the red when trading ended on Thursday, October 31, 2024. This has been attributed to the uncertainties arising out of the close contest between Democrat candidate Kamala Harris and Republican candidate Donald Trump. In the US Dow Jones was down 7.69 points, S&P 500 was down 108.22 points, Nasdaq was down 512.78 points. Major European indices were down too.

On Thursday, October 31, 2024, the major Indian indices Sensex 30 and Nifty 50 crashed too – BSE Sensex declined by 553 points (and closed at 79,389) while Nifty 50 index climbed down by 135 points (and closed at 24,205).

Stock market holidays in 2024

After the holiday on November 1, 2024, stock markets will be closed in India on 2 more days. These dates are 15 November 2024 on account of Guru Nanak Jayanti and 25 December 2024 on account of Christmas.

 On Friday, 1 November 2024, Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE) will remain closed during regular hours in observance of Diwali. However, both exchanges will open for a ceremonial Muhurat Trading session from 6 PM to 7 PM, marking the beginning of Samvat 2081.
