Premier League 2024/25: Dominic Solanke’s brace helps Tottenham defeat Aston Villa

The first half belonged mostly to Aston Villa, with Morgan Rogers scoring a rebound in the 32nd minute and took them to the break with a lead. The second half was a different story. Within four minutes of resuming play, Tottenham equalised with Heung-Min Son, who was returning from injury and assisting from the left flank as Brennan Johnson put it in the nets. It opened the floodgates for Tottenham as Dominic Solanke scored a brace within four minutes. His first goal came at the 75th minute after Dejan Kulusevski timed his pass perfectly for the the 27-year-old to double their score.

Until the 75th minute, it looked like the game was going into a stalemate, with Villa often showing hunger to counter-attack. Solanke’s 75th-minute goal pulled back the game into Tottenham’s side. Coming to the side during the summer for £65m, Solanke had scored only twice before Sunday’s clash.

Though Johnson had opened the tally for Tottenham, it was Solanke who put his side ahead. The Villain goalkeeper, who had been unchallenged in the first half, was put into a spot of bother in the 75th minute as he timed his shot to perfection to elude the Brazilian shot-stopper. Scoring his next in just four minutes meant that Villa could never make a case for themselves and found it hard to counter Solanke’s efforts.
