New Delhi: Real Madrid legend Marcelo has departed boyhood club Fluminense by mutual consent following a touchline spat. The iconic Brazilian defender appeared to have a clash of words manager Mano Menezes during Friday’s meeting with Gremio which led to this decision. The club confirmed his departure, that eventually took place two months before his contract was scheduled to expire.
It comes as a huge surprise given Marcelo’s iconic image and the fact that he rose through the ranks at the Brazilian club. He was set to come off the bench against Gremio but he apparently took issue with a comment from the manager, who then ordered the defender back to the bench. The manager also heard something from the player which made him turn his back on his decision, he clarified after the game.
There gaffer giving him tactical info, to which Marcelo seems to be saying no no and not agreeing.
Menezes gets furious pushing him back and doesn’t sub him on anymore.
This is crazy tbf player thinks he’s higher than the gaffer. #marcelo

“I was going to bring Marcelo in at that time, but I heard one thing that I did not like and I changed my mind,” Menezes explained to reporters post-game. “He wasn’t going in to solve any problem for us; he was stepping in to let us keep what we had. It was just two, three minutes to the end.” The incident between the two quickly sparked attention and raised questions about Marcelo’s future with the club, which was ultimately resolved within hours of the final whistle.
The former Real Madrid star’s contract at boyhood club Fluminese was terminated just hours after a heated clash of words with manager Mano Menezes on the touchline during a game. Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
