Reliving Virat Kohli’s longest six in IPL on his 36th birthday

New Delhi: Indian batting icon Virat Kohli on Tuesday turned 36 and the world of cricket fans are busy cherishing the most revelling moments of one of the greatest players of the game in all formats. The 36-year-old cricketer has many records to his name in the international arena as well as in domestic cricket and the Indian Premier League (IPL).

One of the least talked about subjects of Kohli’s career is his ability to clear the long fence. His nous to play conventional strokes is more garnered, but the Indian player can also play some crackling shots against any best bowler in the opposition ranks. Let’s not forget those two sixes against Pakistan pacer Haris Rauf in the intense India-Pakistan clash at the MCG in the 2022 T20 World Cup.

Kohli has struck 303 sixes in all formats of international cricket – 28 in Tests, 151 in ODIs, and 124 in T20Is. He has smashed 272 sixes in the IPL, which puts him in third place in most sixes of IPL of all-time only behind Rohit Sharma (280) and Chris Gayle (357).

There are no detailed stats about Virat Kohli’s highest six in terms of distance in international cricket, but he has the highest six in the IPL. The former RCB captain smashed a monstrous six of 103-metre against Sunrisers Hyderabad all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy in a league match in IPL 2023. He flicked the ball very hard using his wrists to dispatch the ball long into the stands.

Virat Kohli most sixes in an IPL season

Virat Kohli has hit 272 IPL sixes in the last 17 seasons. Twice he has hit 38 sixes in a particular season in IPL 2016 and IPL 2024, the only instances when the RCB top order batter crossed 30 sixes in an IPL season. In 2016, Kohli finished with the most sixes of that season as RCB reached the final before settling for the runners-up spot to Sunrisers Hyderabad.

However, Kohli was the second joint-highest six-hitter in IPL 2024. His 38 sixes levelled with Sunrisers Hyderabad’s destructive batter Heinrich Klaasen. SRH opener Abhishek Sharma finished with the most sixes this season with 42 maximums tonked by the southpaw.

As Virat Kohli turns 36, fans celebrate his incredible career, filled with countless achievements. One standout moment from IPL 2023 was Kohli’s longest six, a remarkable shot that sent fans into a frenzy. This birthday throwback revisits the towering hit that showcased his strength and passion.  Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
