Visakhapatnam soon to get PV Sindhu’s badminton academy

New Delhi: Star Indian shuttler PV Sindhu has started the work on her dream project – the PV Sindhu Centre for Badminton and Sports Excellence which is set to be brought up in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The two-time Olympic medallist has ventured into the academy business for the first time with a noble aim. The facility will be dedicated to nurturing and empowering athletes, not just in badminton, but across multiple sports and disciplines. The facility is currently under construction as Sindhu laid the foundation stone on Thursday.

Sindhu, with her team PVS, thanked Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu for his continued support of the initiative. The facility also aims to inspire young athletes, offering world-class support, mentorship, and growth, creating an environment in the process where athletes can learn, thrive, and excel in sports.

“I’m truly grateful to be building this centre for the incredible people of Vizag. In choosing a location, I couldn’t imagine a better place than this wonderful city. This centre will be a space where athletes of all levels and from any discipline can find a home and a mentor dedicated to guiding the next generation to the top,” Sindhu said in a statement as quoted by PTI.

“As Indian badminton faces challenges in terms of results, I feel it’s my responsibility to lead the way and guide the next generation,” Sindhu added.

Taking to her social media handle on “X” (formerly Twitter), Sindhu delighted her fans with the joyful news. “Excited to break ground on the PV Sindhu Center for Badminton and Sports Excellence in Visakhapatnam! This isn’t just a facility; it’s the future—a bold step to elevate the next generation of champions and ignite the spirit of excellence in Indian sports,” Sindhu wrote as caption.

“With the unwavering support of my amazing team and partners, we are building something that will inspire, empower, and shape the future of Indian sports for generations to come!!!!” the 29-year-old added.

Sindhu used to practice at the Pullela Gopichand’s Badminton Academy in her hometown Hyderabad but parted ways with the former Indian badminton player. She is currently coached by Anup Sridhar.
