New Delhi: A wounded South Africa will be up against next-gen Team India in a four-T20I series that starts on Thursday in Durban. Kingsmead will be the host to the first T20I between the nations who fought an elite battle a few months back. India and South Africa were the finalists of the T20 World Cup 2024 and the Men in Blue won the trophy after 17 long years, while it was another heartbreak for the Proteas in an ICC event.
The host team will be led by Aiden Markram, the same skipper who captained in the marque event while India will be led by their new T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav, who played the 2024 T20 WC final as a player, under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma. Markram and his team are carrying the wounds of the final clash that took place in Barbados in June. South Africa were nearly over the line before India got the prized wickets of Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller.
The veterans are very well part of the team, meanwhile, in the Indian squad, there have been notable additions which makes it a young-guns bolstered squad. The likes of Ramandeep Singh, Vijaykumar Vyshak, and Yash Dayal have got their maiden T20I call-ups. Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson are expected to open for India while Shivam Dube, Riyan Parag, and Mayank Yadav were unavailable for selection owing to injuries.
