New Delhi: Afghanistan star all-rounder Mohammed Nabi will retire from the ODI format after the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan. He made his international debut in 2009 during the country’s first match against Scotland and is considered one of the greatest cricketers of Afghanistan.
He has been a part of Afghanistan’s first-ever Test and T20I match as well. Nabi captained the side from 2013-15 but after a poor run of form, he decided to step down from his role. He played a crucial role for the team with both bat and ball in the last three ODI World Cups.
Speaking to Cricbuzz, Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) chief executive Naseeb Khan confirmed that Nabi has told the board about his decision to retire from the ODI format after the Champions Trophy 2025. He said that the board has welcomed Nabi’s decision. He has already announced retirement from Test cricket in 2019.
“Yes, Nabi is retiring from ODIs after the Champions Trophy and he informed the board about his desire. He told me few months back that he wants to end his ODI career after the Champions Trophy and we welcome his decision. After the Champions Trophy, what I understand is that, he is expected to continue his T20 career, and that is the plan until now” Naseeb told Cricbuzz.
Mohammed Nabi’s record in ODIs

After losing early wickets, Nabi stitched a crucial 104-run partnership with skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi to set up a competitive total for his team. He scored 84 runs off 92 balls with the help of four boundaries and three maximums. Shahidi also scored an important half-century.
Chasing the target 236 runs target, Allah Ghazanfar picked up six wickets for Afghanistan as Bangladesh got all out for 143 runs in 34.3 overs.
