New Delhi: Manchester United full-back Luke Shaw has taken a significant step in his recovery, returning to team training at Carrington after a lengthy spell on the sidelines. Shaw, who has been out of action since February with various injuries, is gradually making his way back to fitness after undergoing months of rehabilitation. He was selected for England’s UEFA Euro 2024 squad and played in England’s 2-1 final defeat to Spain despite not being fully fit.
Shaw’s experience with the England squad over the summer added to his recent workload, after featuring twice in the European Championship, including starting in the final against Spain. However, upon his return to United, he faced another setback with the calf injury that has kept him out until now. The 29-year-old defender’s most recent setback began in pre-season when he sustained a calf injury.
Initially expected to miss only the opening games of the Premier League season, Shaw’s recovery took longer than anticipated, as then-manager Erik ten Hag revealed last month that he had suffered complications during his rehabilitation. Since then, Shaw has focused on individual recovery sessions at United’s training base until he was able to join his teammates for training on Friday.

Shaw’s return to training is a welcome boost for the club at a time when they’re welcoming a lot of their other stars that were previously out injured. New signing Leny Yoro had been out with a metatarsal injuring he suffered during preseason, rejoined training earlier this week after his own injury layoff, and Tyrell Malacia has also resumed full training following an extended period of recovery from a long-term issue. Even midfielder Mason Mount, who had been out for the past five weeks, returned to training recently.
The return of these defensive players offers welcome depth and flexibility to Manchester United’s backline. Shaw, in particular, is an essential player for the Red Devils, both for his defensive stability and his ability to contribute in attack down the left side. His absence since February, stemming from a hamstring injury sustained in a 2-1 victory over Luton Town, has been a significant loss for the team.
With Shaw, Yoro, and Malacia nearing match fitness, incoming manager Ruben Amorim will benefit from a strengthened defense in his first weeks in charge. United fans will undoubtedly be hopeful for Shaw’s full recovery, as his return could play a critical role in the club’s ambitions this season. With Amorim preferring a three-at-the-back system which requires five defenders to be fielded at once, having so many options to choose from will be appreciated by the incoming boss.
The Red Devils received another welcome addition to their squad as left-back Luke Shaw has returned to team-training after spending nine months out due to injury. Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
