New Delhi: Virat Kohli has completed 16 years in international cricket, having made his debut in 2008 in the ODI series against Sri Lanka. Virat etched his name in history just a few months before the Sri Lanka series by leading Team India to victory in the U19 World Cup. He scored 235 runs at an average of 27 in six matches.

Virat opened the batting with Gautam Gambhir in his debut match and only managed to score 12 runs. He ended the series with a good numbers, scoring 159 runs in five matches at an average of 31.80.

Year by year, Kohli proved his talent across all formats and became part of the modern-day ‘Fab 4’ along with Steve Smith, Kane Williamson and Joe Root. He made his Test debut in 2011 against West Indies and represented India in 111 Tests. Kohli recently announced his retirement from T20 internationals after winning the T20 World Cup 2024.

5) Fourth-highest international run scorer

Virat Kohli has scored 26942 runs in 533 matches. Sachin Tendulkar (34357), Kumar Sangakkara (28016), Ricky Ponting (27483) are ahead of him. Kohli has scored 8848 runs in 113 Test matches, 13906 runs in ODIs and 4188 runs in T20Is.

4) Seven double centuries as Test captain

Virat Kohli has scored seven double-hundreds as Indian captain, a record that might never be broken. He equalled Wally Hammond and Mahela Jawardena’s tally of 7 double centuries. Only Don Bradman (12), Kumar Sangakkara (11) and Brain Lara (9) have more double centuries than him in international cricket.

3) Most runs in IPL history

The star batter has scored the most runs in IPL history. He leads the table with 8004 runs in 252 matches, including 8 centuries and 55 fifties. Kohli has smashed 705 fours and 272 sixes at an average of 38.67 and a strike rate of 131.97. He also holds the record for scoring most runs in one season, smashing 973 runs in 16 matches.

2) Most successful Test captain

Team India might never get a Test skipper like Virat Kohli again. Not just because of the wins, but because of the way he led the team. Under his leadership, India remained at the top of the test rankings for six consecutive years.

Virat is India’s most successful captain in test cricket and one of the best overall. He led India in 68 matches and won 40 of those. India lost only 17 games and drew 11 under his captaincy. He also became the first captain to win a Test series against Australia in Australia.

1) 50 ODI centuries

Virat Kohli became the first batsman in the history of cricket to score 50 ODI centuries, going past his idol Sachin Tendulkar during the World Cup 2023 semifinal against New Zealand. Tendulkar scored his 49 ODI centuries in 452 innings. Kohli has overtaken his record in 279 innings.
