New Delhi: South Africa defeated India by 3 wickets in the second T20I at St George’s Park in Gqeberha. Tristan Stubbs stitched a 42-run partnership with Gerald Coetzee to help the Proteas level the 4-match T20I series at 1-1. Chasing the 125-run target, South Africa started well as openers Rickelton and Hendricks hit few boundaries to put pressure on the visitors.
Arshdeep dismissed Rickelton and Varun Chakaravarthy removed Hendricks and Markram. Chakarvarthy also dismissed Klassen, Jansen and Miller to pick up his first five-wicket haul in T20Is. Stubbs held one end and scored an unbeaten 47 runs off 41 balls with the help of seven boundaries. Coetzee also scored an unbeaten 19 runs off 9 balls.
Earlier, The Men in Blue scored 124 runs in the 20 overs after South African captain Aiden Markram elected to bowl first. Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson and Suryakumar Yadav were dismissed cheaply, and the next batters also failed to make contributions with the bat.
Axar was playing a good knock but was run out in an unfortunate manner at the bowler’s end. Rinku Singh also failed to make any impact with the bat. But Hardik played a great innings and scored an unbeaten 39 runs off 45 balls. Jansen, Coetzee, Simelane, Markram and Maharaj took one wicket each. But South Africa chased down the target with one over remaining.
