New Delhi: India’s leg spinner Varun Chakravarthy has displayed remarkable ball control and South Africa needs a lot of preparation to be tackle it in the remaining two T20I matches of the ongoing four-match series, said Paul Adams.
The 33-year-old has taken eight wickets in the two matches, including a career-best 5/17 in the second game, though South Africa won that game to square the series 1-1.
With the series up for grabs, South African batters have to be on top of their game, said Adams, pointing out that the hone team’s seem unsure of what to expect once the ball is released from Chakravarthy’s hand.
“Yeah, I think his control of length has been great in terms of bowling, his googly and his leggy. So, his release point as well is (at a) very similar height in terms of getting that googly out and the lines,” Adams has said, as quoted by PTI.
“So, his control has been absolutely magnificent in terms of how to challenge the batter’s defense and also they’re not sure in how to line him up in what they’re seeing at the moment.
“So, the South African side has got some homework to do on how they’re going to play him and how they’re going to go about him in the two matches left (in the four-match series).”
‘Lyon more complete than Ashwin’
With the Border-Gavaskar series beginning on November 22, India’s off spinner Ravichandran Ashwin will pit his wits against his Australian counterpart Nathan Lyon.
Adams viewed Lyon to be a more “complete” bowler as the 530 Test wicket holder has ability to trouble batters on pitches all over the world compared to Ashwin, who has 536 wickets.
“I still think Nathan Lyon has a more complete game in terms of competing in subcontinent and in Australia or South Africa, those type of conditions, than Ashwin,” said Adams, who played 45 Tests and took 134 wickets, when asked who between the two had a more complete game to succeed all around the world.
“He (Ashwin) has a carrom ball that can turn the ball the opposite ways. But Lyon has been someone who has bowled with a lot of over-spin. That challenges the batters.”
Adams also observed that recuperating Mohammed Shami’s absence would be a big blow for India.
