Patrick Vieira leaves Chelsea-owned RC Strasbourg ahead of the 2024/25 Ligue 1 season

New Delhi: Patrick Vieira, former Arsenal player and Crystal Palace manager, signed a three-year contract with the French club RC Strasbourg in July 2023. This Alsace-based club appointed him as their first manager after a change in ownership to BlueCo, the company run by Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali, who also own London-based Premier League club, Chelsea. This decision comes just a month before the new Ligue 1 204/25 commences, putting the owners in the market to find a suitable replacement for the French icon.

The French manager’s tenure, starting in 2023, saw his young team finish 13th in the Ligue 1 table. His departure reflects that of Mauricio Pochettino, who also left Chelsea by mutual consent after 12 months. In May, Pochettino was replaced by Enzo Maresca, the former Leicester manager.

The club released an official statement, taking Patrick Viera for his contributions. The statement read: “The entire club warmly thanks Patrick Vieira for his impeccable commitment. Indeed, in a season of transition, Patrick was able to help young talents progress and always displayed exemplary behavior on and off the field.”

He achieved significant success as a player, winning both the World Cup and European Championship with France. He also secured three Premier League titles with Arsenal, where he was a key midfielder in Arsene Wenger’s unbeaten “Invincibles” team of the 2003-04 season.
