15 for Kohli, 19 for Pant: Indian batters given reality check in intra-squad match

New Delhi: Team India squared off with India A on Friday, ahead of the start of the Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT). The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI scheduled the three-day intra-squad practice match from Friday to Sunday and the match went behind closed doors as fans were barred from attending the fixture at WACA. Some worrying news has emerged after the Day 1 play of the practice match as Virat Kohli yet again failed to make a comeback.

The star batter couldn’t bat for longer and was dismissed cheaply by India A. Even the hero of India in the New Zealand 3-0 Test series whitewash, Rishabh Pant, was sent packing on a low score. The Australian pace setup of Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Mitchell Starc is posing a threat to Team India batters and to tackle the situation, the BCCI decided to get the team tested against the India A players who have been in Australia for quite some time now.

A couple of beautiful cover drives – but Virat Kohli has nicked a good length delivery to second slip. Another typical WACA dismissal. He made 15

The updates surrounding the game have emerged from WACA. Kohli showed promising signs when he came out to bat as he produced his beautiful cover drive a couple of times before handing the ball to the fielder at the second slip. It was Mukesh Kumar who got rid of the star batter for 15 runs. Even Rishabh Pant couldn’t last longer on the crease as he was clean-bowled by Nitish Kumar Reddy for 19 runs. Moreover, Yashasvi Jaiswal could muster only 15 runs.

KL Rahul injured?

After the dismissal of Kohli, it was impressive to see him going back into the nets straightaway and start practicing. When Rishabh came out to bat, he looked good at the start but as soon as the bowlers started targeting him with shorter balls, he became shaky. Earlier during the game, KL Rahul had to walk off the field due to an injury. A physio was spotted tending to the Indian batter and the full extent of his injury isn’t yet known.

The Perth Test will kickstart on November 22 and this is the only practice game the team will be playing ahead of the game. The team would solely have to rely on the net sessions to get their confidence boosted and start on a high in the series.
