New Delhi: The countdown to the 2024 Globe Soccer Awards has begun and the announcement of the nominees for Best Men’s Player has set the internet ablaze. Football icons Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are among 30 players that have been nominated. The awards are given out by Globe Soccer with the active participation of UEFA. The Portuguese star won the last edition and holds a staggering number to claim this year as well.
It is an annual event held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates which is scheduled to take place on December 27 this year. Manchester City duo Erling Haaland and Phil Foden are also on the list along with Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham. Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane, Barcelona’s Rober Lewandowski and Lamine Yamal, and Madrid’s Kylian Mbappe are some other notable names.
Veteran stars Mohamed Salah, Toni Kroos, and Antoine Griezman have also made it to the list along with two footballing titans.

Messi-Ronaldo form this season
Lionel Messi has been in excellent form throughout this season. He plays for Inter Miami in Major League Soccer and has scored 23 goals second only to his teammate Luis Suarez who is leading with 25 goals. The Argentine is also on top of the list of players with the most assists (13) at Miami.
Messi recently helped his side won the Supporters’ Shield this season. However, his side missed out on the MLS Cup as they lost 3-2 to Atlanta United in the third match of Round 1 of the playoffs.
Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo who plays for Saudi club Al-Nassr has made a total of 79 appearances since moving from Manchester United back in 2023 and has scored 68 goals. He has been in an impressive form in the Saudi Pro League having scored six goals, two assists in nine games so far.
