New Delhi: Qantas, Australia’s flagship airline, is set to launch the world’s longest non-stop flights in 2026, connecting Sydney with both London and New York. The flights will last between 19 and 22 hours, allowing passengers to witness two sunrises during the journey. This unique experience has led to the name Project Sunrise.
Faster and More Efficient Travel
Once launched, these new non-stop routes will reduce travel time, cutting up to four hours off the current one-stop flights between Sydney, London, and New York.
Massive Investment in Cutting-Edge Aircraft
Qantas is investing £1.2 billion into this ambitious project. The airline will acquire 12 custom-designed Airbus A350-1000 aircraft, specifically built to handle these ultra-long-haul flights. These planes feature additional fuel tanks and advanced technology to ensure efficiency and safety on the extended routes.
Project Sunrise: A Delayed Launch Now Set for Mid-2026
Originally announced in 2017, Project Sunrise faced delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, Qantas is now set to begin operations by mid-2026. Qantas anticipates that the new service will boost its annual earnings, with projections suggesting an increase of £261 million once all aircraft are fully operational.
Luxurious Experience Onboard
Passengers on these ultra-long-haul flights will enjoy a luxurious onboard experience. The Airbus A350-1000 aircraft will feature six enclosed first-class suites, 52 business suites, 40 premium economy seats, and 140 economy seats, ensuring comfort and privacy during the journey.
