New Delhi: Mukesh Ambani is a name that almost pervades every aspect of the business sector in India. Hence, it is of little surprise that when Fortune published its list of 100 Most Powerful People in Business, Ambani became the only Indian to make the cut. He is ranked in the 12th position in the list which also has six people of Indian origin.
The list has leaders from 40 industries and their age ranges from the 30s to the 90s. These people are founders, chief executives of great businesses, innovators and disrupters. Among Indian-origin people who have been featured in the list, four out of the five are CEOs of massive tech companies, while one is the head of a makeup brand. Mukesh Ambani’s inclusion in the list is probably a matter of little surprise as he is the richest man in India and the owner of the Reliance conglomerate. Over the years, he has solidified his stake in the communications and energy sectors.
Indian-origin people in the top 10 on the list
Among the Indian-origin people included in the list, Satya Nadella grabs the top spot at number 3. His full name is Satya Narayana Nadella and he is an Indian-born American business executive who is the chairman and CEO of Microsoft. In 2014, he succeeded Steve Ballmer as the CEO of Microsoft and in 2021, he succeeded John W. Thompson as the chairman of the organisation. Another Indian-origin person in the top 10 is Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Google who has just made the cut. Their presence in the list demonstrates the influence of tech and AI as an industry on the world.
Other Indian-origin people on the list
The next Indian-origin person on the list is Shantanu Narayan, the CEO of Adobe. He is in the 52nd position which shows his influence on the software industry and its AI tools. Neal Mohan, the CEO of YouTube, is in the 69th position. It shows the growth of the content industry as the streaming platform introduced short-form content in 2021. Vinod Khosla, a venture capitalist, is in the 74th position and Tarang Amin, CEO of makeup brand Eyes Lips Face is in the 94th place.
