Mike Tyson says ‘no regrets’ over loss to Jake Paul for fighting ‘one last time’

New Delhi: Former world heavyweight champion Mike Tyson on Saturday dropped hints of not returning to the boxing ring again after his loss against Jake Paul at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The 58-year-old mentioned that it was ‘one last time’ after the fight against the YouTuber-turned-boxer.

In front of more than 72,000 fans at the venue, and more than 60 million users in households worldwide, as reported by official bout streamer Netflix, Tyson lost to a younger opponent in Paul 80-72 on the scorecard of one judge and identical scores of 79-73 on the other two judges’ plate.

“This is one of those situations when you lost but still won. I’m grateful for last night. No regrets to get in ring one last time,” Tyson wrote on his official X handle on Saturday.”
The original date scheduled for the bout between Tyson and Paul was on July 20 this year. However, Tyson’s health deteriorated in May following a flight scare from Miami to Los Angeles, where he reportedly vomited blood. As a result, he was asked to take rest for a weeks by medical professionals.
He had no regret of losing the fight to Paul as he felt competing in the ring was a morale victory for him.
“I almost died in June. Had 8 blood transfusions. Lost half my blood and 25lbs in hospital and had to fight to get healthy to fight so I won,” Tyson wrote.
“To have my children see me stand toe to toe and finish 8 rounds with a talented fighter half my age in front of a packed Dallas Cowboy stadium is an experience that no man has the right to ask for,” he further mentioned.

Notwithstanding the slapgate incident happened on the eve of their bout during the weigh-in session, Jake Paul had a moment of gratitude for the legendary boxer. After the fight, the 27-year-old took to his X account to share a picture featuring him and Tyson greeting each other. The youngster wrote: ‘Record breaking. Love you Mike’.
