New Delhi: In the latest developments regarding the Champions Trophy row, the International Cricket Council (ICC) is trying to convince the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to agree to the tournament being conducted in a hybrid model as there’s no other way out. Additionally, the ICC has also warned the PCB against making any anti-BCCI comments after India’s refusal to travel to the neighbouring nation.
According to a report published in India Today, top cricket administrators have been emphasising the importance of India’s participation in the big ICC event, pertaining to the large revenue the Board of Control for Cricket in India brings in. Pakistan has also been made careful of the financial consequences if they withdraw from the event. They have been urged to start working towards the possibility of a hybrid model so that the eight-team event can be held smoothly.
Champions Trophy schedule to be out this week
The same report further mentions that the apex cricketing body is swiftly working out to finalise and release the schedule of the marquee tournament as soon as possible. Hopefully, the schedule should be out in this week, the report suggests. Currently, discussions are in full swing with the host country and the participating members.
The Champions Trophy 2025, which is scheduled to be held from February 19 to March 9, has been in the news since the last few months. After Pakistan was announced as the host country, developments starting happening with India’s refusal to take part in the event being the first. The PCB had then written a hard-hitting letter to the ICC, seeking justification from BCCI for refusing to travel to Pakistan with the reasons.
India have not played any cricket in the nation since last 15 years. Both the teams only meet at the big ICC and ACC events.
