A mere 20-second Press conference as Denmark draw with Serbia

New Delhi: Denmark coach Brian Riemer had almost certainly the shortest press conference of his career yesterday following his side’s 0-0 draw with Serbia in the Nations League. The sequence from his appearance for the Press conference to leaving the stage gets over in precise 28 seconds, with media manager’s announcement being the only audio activity in that period.

After Riemer settled down in his seat, the media manager announced, “Good evening and welcome to this Press conference. We just go ahead with your questions. So, please wait for the microphone and state the media that you represent. Now ask your question to Mr Brian…. (There is a long pause in the room thereafter). No questions. Alright. Thank you so much.”

Journalists remain in silence for 20 seconds

That rounded-off Riemer’s post-match media duties. He was back on his feet within 20 seconds after taking his seat for the Press conference after being met with silence by the journalists in the room. As far as the UEFA Nations League is concerned, it made for a good night for the Danish coach, who saw his side secure a quarter-final spot after finishing second in Group A4 on eight points.

Denmark needed just one point to secure a last-eight berth, which they managed with the drawn match. Serbia had an opportunity to advance at Denmark’s expense but Dusan Vlahovic missed a good chance in the 80th minute as he blazed his shot high. As the tension reached boiling point, Serbian defender Strahinja Pavlovic was booked in the 90th minute and sent off for picking up a second yellow card five minutes into stoppage time. Denmark didn’t press hard to find a goal against the 10-man Serbia.
