A day after the debate, Biden insists he is still up for the job

President Joe Biden acknowledged his underwhelming performance in America’s first presidential debate, admitting to supporters at a rally in North Carolina that he no longer debates like he “used to.” Despite this, he emphasized his experience and moral integrity as strengths in his campaign against former President Donald Trump.

Speaking to an enthusiastic crowd in Raleigh, North Carolina, Biden said, “I don’t walk as easy as I used to, I don’t speak as smoothly as I used to, I don’t debate as well as I used to.” The audience responded with roars of support as he continued, “…But I know how to tell the truth. I know right from wrong. And I know how to do this job, I know how to get things done.”

Within the Democratic Party, opinions are divided regarding Biden’s candidacy. Some party members, including a congressman, suggested that the party has “some decisions to make.” However, prominent lawmakers such as Nancy Pelosi have reiterated their support for Biden. His aides confirmed that he plans to participate in the second scheduled debate with Trump in September.

Meanwhile, at a rally in Chesapeake, Virginia, on Friday, Trump celebrated his “big victory” in the debate. He criticized Biden, claiming his “problem is not his age” but that he is “grossly incompetent.”

‘If I were Democrat, I’d be panicking too’, says House Speaker

Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson called for Biden’s cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment, which would replace the president in the event of death, disability, or resignation. Johnson described Biden’s debate performance as “alarming,” adding, “I would be panicking too if I were a Democrat.” If the 25th Amendment were invoked, Vice President Kamala Harris would assume the presidency.

As the debate over Biden’s performance and future continues, both parties gear up for the next phase of the presidential campaign.
