New Delhi: Rohit Sharma set a new benchmark in ODI batting on this day (November 13) a decade ago, hitting the highest individual score in the 50-over format. His 264-run knock remains the highest score by any batter in the 50-over format.
The India skipper clubbed 33 boundaries and nine sixes during his 173-ball knock, striking at a rate of 152.60. He single-handedly led India to a 153-run win the fourth ODI at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
After India won the toss and elected to bat, it became a one-man show as Rohit lifted India to a mammoth 404/5, leaving Sri Lanka in a daze as they folded for 251 in 43/1 overs.

It was Rohit’s second double century in ODIs, having scored 209 against Australia in 2013.
Rohit surpasses Virender Sehwag’s 219 against the West Indies in 2011, after Sachin Tendulkar became the first batter to score a double hundred in ODIs (200 not out off 147 balls) against South Africa in 2010.

Sri Lanka paid heavily for dropped catch
Rohit made full use of a dropped catch when he was on four by Thisara Perera. Having opened India’s innings with Ajinkya Rahane, Rohit capitalised on the early life as he completed his century in 100 balls in the 32nd over and then accelerated.
He took only 25 balls more to reach 150 and reached his 200 off 151 balls with a boundary in the 46th over. In the next 22 balls till he got dismissed in the last deliver of India’s innings, he blasted nine boundaries and three sixes in a classic example of brutal hitting.
