How to prevent fraud using Aadhaar-enabled payment system?
Aadhaar-enabled Payment System (AePS) allows Aadhaar cardholders to process transactions using their Aadhaar credentials. While this is a revolutionary way of processing transactions in low or no Internet connectivity areas, the fact that the cardholder’s fingerprint is used to verify their identity creates a problem since it can be obtained illegally and cloned by fraudsters.
To avoid AePS fraud, make sure to keep your Aadhaar number masked. You can download the same from the UIDAI website. Online transactions should be carried out using a virtual ID instead of Aadhaar. Ensure that your number and email ID are linked to your Aadhaar so that you are notified about any suspicious activity that takes place using your Aadhaar. If you are a victim of AePS cyber fraud, report the same on the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal.
