New Delhi: Filmmakers Anurag Kashyap and Imtiaz Ali’s daughters Aaliyah Kashyap and Ida Ali respectively revealed that they were once ‘kidnapped’ and shared how to two bonded over the ‘traumatic incident’. Aaliyah shared that the two girls were taken hostage and they thought that they were ‘going to die’.
When Aaliyah and Ida were kidnapped
Recalling the incident when the two were living in the same building years ago, Aaliyah said on her podcast Young, Dumb and Anxious, “That was crazy… one of the experiences we trauma bonded over was being kidnapped. Not technically kidnapped because we were at home, but we were part of a robbery… it was definitely traumatic.”
Ida added, “I don’t know what could have happened…. we were taken hostage.”
Aaliyah and Ida revealed that their parents were out together when two were staying at Aaliyah’s home and her nani was watching over them and so was their ‘didi’, who was working at Aaliyah’s home at the time.
Anurag Kashyap’s daughter shared that her maid locked nani in her room after her parents left and she taped her and Ida’s mouth and tied their hands to a chair.
“We were crying and yelling because we thought we were going to die. So, basically, she was stealing stuff from the house. She was stealing jewellery and money or whatever was in the house,” she recalled.
Traumatic experience
Aaliyah added, “Thankfully, my mom (Aarti Bajaj) had left something, and she came back like 15–20 minutes later to pick it up, and she saw everything that had happened. She called her (Ida’s) parents, my dad, and everyone back, and they freaked out. It was obviously traumatic, but it would have been a lot more traumatic if we went through that alone… now we laugh about it.”

Aaliyah is the daughter of Anurag Kashyap and his first wife, Arti Bajaj. She is a YouTuber and often shares her views on mental health and fashion, among other things. She is engaged to her longtime boyfriend Shane Gregoire.
