‘Ab koi ungli karega toh…’: Rohit Sharma reacts to Jasprit Bumrah-Sam Konstas feud

New Delhi: Rohit Sharma reacted to the feud between Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah and young Australian opener Sam Konstas stating that unnecessary talking and verbal battles don’t suit players. Bumrah replaced Rohit as the captain of the Indian team after the senior batter was excluded from the playing XI for the must-win fifth Test against Australia in Sydney.

During an interview on Star Sports during lunch on Day 2 of the Sydney Test, Rohit was asked about the ongoing feud between Bumrah and Konstas. The battle between Bumrah and Konstas kickstarted during the 4th Test in Melbourne where the 19-year-old Australian debutant went all-out against Bumrah after opening the batting for the hosts and exchanged a few words with the premier India pacer.

Their feud continued later in the Test match as Bumrah was seen celebrating animatedly after dismissing the 19-year-old in Australia’s second innings. There was no separating the duo once again on Day 1 of the ongoing 5th Test in Sydney as Bumrah had an altercation with the Aussie youngster during Australia’s first innings right before stumps.

Asked about the battle between the duo, Rohit said Indian players like to stay calm and are classy but they won’t remain quiet if someone continues to poke them. Rohit also advised Konstas to focus on cricket and not on engaging in unnecessary verbal confrontations with the Indian players.

“Humare ladke shaant hai, ab koi ungli karega toh hum shaant thodi rahenge. Cricket khelo, ye faltu ka bol bachchan karna shobha nahi deta. (Our boys are calm but if someone pokes us, we won’t remain quiet. Focus on playing cricket, all this unnecessary talking doesn’t look nice),” Rohit said on Star Sports.

India bundle out Australia for 181 in their 1st innings

Indian bowlers produced a superb show on Day 2 to bowl out Australia for a paltry 181, helping India gain a slender lead of 4 runs heading into their second innings. Jasprit Bumrah struck early on Day 2 to get rid of Marnus Labuschagne cheaply on 2 to set the tone before the likes of Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna and Nitish Reddy combined to run riot.

Siraj dismissed both Konstas and Travis Head in the same over and finished with excellent figures of 3/51 off his 16 overs while Prasidh got rid of the big fish Steve Smith, half-centurion Beau Webster and Alex Carey to bag a three-wicket haul. Reddy contributed with two wickets as India managed to take a 4-run lead.

Reacting to the feud between young Australian opener Sam Konstas and Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah, Rohit Sharma said Indian players are usually calm but won’t stay quiet if they are poked regularly.  Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
