New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has yet to announce the coaching staff of new head coach Gautam Gambhir. As per the Cricbuzz report, Abhishek Nayar, Ryan ten Doeschate and T Dilip are set to join Team India’s coaching staff for the Sri Lanka series.
Both Nayar and Ten Doeschate were part of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) coaching staff where Gambhir served as the mentor of the team. The former Dutch international also played for KKR under Gambhir’s captaincy.
T Dilip will continue as the fielding coach of the team and he will also travel with the team on Monday. He has been a popular figure in the dressing room with his fielding medal ceremony, which improved India’s fielding. He is the only member of Rahul Dravid’s coaching staff to continue.
There is still no clarity on the bowling coach but as per the same report, South African fast bowler Morne Morkel will join Gambhir’s coaching team for this role.
The Men in Blue will depart to Sri Lanka from Mumbai on a charter flight at 1 PM (IST) on Monday. A press conference is planned in Mumbai before departure where BCCI will unveil Gambhir as the new head coach. Newly appointed T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav will also address the media at a five-star hotel in Andheri, Mumbai.
