New Delhi: Pakistan Cricket Board will formulate a code of conduct for players and are looking at another overhaul after their exit from the T20 World Cup.
After failing to advance beyond the group stage, PCB has been criticised for allowing families of players to be beside them at the T20 World Cup and allowing them to make paid appearances at promotional events during the tournament.
New chairman Mohsin Naqvi brought back Babar Azam as captain, who resigned afyer a poor ODI World Cup 2023 campaign, in place of Shaheen Shah Afridi.
But they lost to USA and India to bow out from the first round with reports suggesting that it has left Naqvi livid with the performance. He has blamed senior officials for indicipline within the ranks
“You can expect the PCB to lose senior management level officials and also enforce some strict policies for the players in future,” a PCB source was quoted as saying by PTI.
“The fact that so many players not only took their wives and children to the World Cup even had their parents, brothers etc staying in the team hotel has left the chairman unhappy.”
The PCB is now thinking of putting rules in place that would prevent players from taking their families along in major ICC events after an enquiry revealed that senior officials green lighted it.
“Some of these officials are not professionals but fans of the players and have given them lot of concessions which eventually led to the World Cup debacle,” the source said.
Paid appearance
Naqvi is also reportedly unhappy with the pace of work for the ICC Champions Trophy that Pakistan would host early next year.
Reports in Pakistan daily ‘Jung’ said several players took $2500 apperance fee to attend a function in Dallas, adding that another ecent had to be cancelled due to differences in payments made to skipper Babar Azam and other players.
“It is now becoming clear that if the players are today an indisciplined and careless lot, the blame for this falls on some of the senior management officials who have been patronising them in many ways including in the finalisation of the central contracts last year,” the source told PTI.
Reports also have spoke of a rift in the dressing room with players either sifing for Babar or Afridi over captaincy.
