New Delhi: They say after the highs, comes the lows. Sanju Samson can vouch for it after setting an unwanted T20I ducks record, days after becoming the first Indian batter to score consecutive centuries in the 20-over format.
Samson was dismissed for a three-ball duck in India’s three-wicket loss to South Africa in the second T20I of a four-match series on Sunday.
He was castled by Marco Jansen in the third ball of the first over as he tried to make room for a big shot after India were sent into bat in Gqeberha.
It was the right hand batter’s fourth duck in T20Is in 2024, which is the most by an Indian batter in a calendar year. Before the match, he was tied with Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Yusuf Pathan with three scores of zero in a year.

Samson, who celebrates his birthday on Monday (November 10) was out for nought against Afghanistan in Bengaluru in January.
In July, he had also registered back-to-back ducks against Sri Lanka in the second and third matches in Pallekele.
The 29-year-old has also tied up with KL Rahul for most ducks in T2OIs by an Indian batter five zero scores.
In 35 T20Is, the keeper-batter has scored 701 runs at an average of 25.03 and a strike rate of 131.07 with two centuries.
