New Delhi: India captain Rohit Sharma is well known for his unique captaincy style that comes with granting the players freedom as well as an equal amount of accountability. Almost every player that has played for India alongside Rohit, has cherished the camaraderie between them and have lauded Rohit for keeping the dressing room and the environment lively with his notable one-liners.
The Mumbaikar yet again took centerstage on Wednesday when he was awarded the Men’s international cricketer of the award at an award function organised by CEAT. While on stage, Rohit talked in depth about himself and his team. A few active cricketers in presence were also asked about how is it while getting to play under Rohit and star India pacer Mohammed Shami’s response was one that stood out.
Shami highlighted that Rohit empowers his teammates to play their natural game and also provides them with constructive feedback. Even if a player doesn’t live up to his expectations, he did express himself through some word-less reactions that are so subtle that the message gets conveyed. The right-arm quick said Rohit gives players the freedom and boosts them with confidence.
“The best thing about Rohit is that he gives you freedom. Agar aap uske hisaab se sahi nahi utre, to unke thode reactions bahar aate hain. Wo aapko bataega ki aapko ye karna tha, ya ye chahiye tha. (The best thing about Rohit Sharma is that he gives you freedom. But, if you don’t meet his expectations, his reactions start to show a bit. He will tell you that you should have done this or have done that)” Shami said during the award ceremony.
“Fir bhi aap uspe khare nahi utre, toh fir hum screen pe jo reactions dekhte hain, jo hum bina bole samajh jaate hain, wo aane lagte hain (But if you still don’t live up to it, then the reactions we see on the screen, the ones we understand without him saying anything, start to come out),” Shami added.
