New Delhi: The governing body of European football ordered a disciplinary inspector to “evaluate a potential violation of the Uefa disciplinary regulations” after the Gibraltar Football Association (GFA) filed an official complaint on the celebrations with Uefa. Morata and Rodri have now been charged with transgressing general codes of behavior, fundamental norms of decency, utilizing athletic events for non-sporting acts, and defaming football in general and Uefa in particular.
Álvaro Morata has been charged by UEFA for his comments on Jamal Musiala, among other things, during Spain’s title celebrations. Rodri also charged for comments on Gibraltar pic.twitter.com/WmmzLwb30V

The Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body (CEDB) of Uefa will decide “in due course” on the matter. Spain has long demanded the return of Gibraltar, an enclave at the southernmost point of the country that has been ruled by the British since the 18th century. On July 15, in front of tens of thousands of Spanish supporters, the players celebrated their 2-1 victory over England in the Euro 2024 final by chanting.
On stage, Manchester City midfielder Rodri, 28, was heard yelling, “Gibraltar is Spanish,” while AC Milan striker Morata, 31, later urged the audience to join in. The Gibraltar FA filed a complaint against Spain after observing the incredibly offensive and sensationalistic character of the festivities around the Spanish Men’s National Team’s victory at Euro 2024. “Football has no place for this sort of behaviour ” said the statement.
Alvaro Morata, the captain of Spain, and teammate Rodri have been subject to “disciplinary proceedings” by FIFA when they yelled “Gibraltar is Spanish” during their celebration of winning the Euro 2024 championship.
