New Delhi: The Kamakhya Temple one of the most revered Shakti Peethas in India is situated on the top of Nilachal Hills, in Guwahati, Assam. This temple is dedicated to the goddess Kamakhya, an incarnation of Goddess Durga, who is believed to be situated here and is worshipped with the ancient practices of feminine energy and fertility here at the temple. It is believed to be one of the oldest of the 51 Shakti Peethas, where the body parts of Goddess Sati fell after Lord Shiva’s tandava.

Ambabuchi Mela 2024
As per the details by the Department of Tourism, Government of Assam, Ambabuchi Mela is the largest gathering taking place in Eastern India. It is the most significant festival of the Kamakhya temple and takes place in June each year. The festival marks the menstruation period of the goddess Kamakhya. The temple remains closed for three days during the festival as it is believed that Mother Earth becomes impure during this time. On the fourth day, the temple reopens, and devotees visit to receive blessings and prasad.
Ambubachi Mela 2024 date and time
This festival is highly anticipated and it is one of the biggest festivals celebrated in East India. This year the festival will be celebrated from 20 June 2024 to 26 June 2024. It is a four-day festival celebrated each year, where the doors remain closed for the first three days and open for the public on the fourth day to seek blessings. A grand celebration takes place in the temple on the fourth day.
Tickets are not required to attend the Ambubachi Mela, and admission is free. However, due to the high demand, it is advisable to plan your trip in advance and if not possible avoid going and worship from home and seek the blessings.
