‘An eye for an eye…’: Ambati Rayudu brutally slammed for peace cry amid rising Indo-Pak conflict

New Delhi: Former Indian cricketer Ambati Rayudu, who is currently a commentator in the Indian Premier League (IPL), has landed himself in controversy by making a plea for peace in the ongoing tough time between India and Pakistan. The two nations have engaged their defenses against each other as a military stand-off ensues following the retaliatory Indian air strikes on terror camps in Pakistan early Wednesday.

Rayudu, who has already been criticised as a commentator, gave the netizens more ammunition to fire at him, this time by making a cry for peace. The ex-Andhra cricketer quoted Mahatma Gandhi as he posted “An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind” on his “X” account. The tweet at first came on Thursday night, notably when the two nations were up against each other, conducting air raids.

In no time, he started receiving heavy backlash on the comment that he made, as fans understood his reference to the ongoing situation and his plea for peace. The fans in the comments engaged in heated debates as well. While some made it clear that peace is not the solution to the war-mongering tactics of Pakistan while a few sets of netizens, like Rayudu, vouched for peace and a “de-escalation” of the situation.

For the uninitiated, the Gandhian ideology talks about resolving the issues with talks rather than going violent or for war. Rayudu’s tweet, as fans took it, was a cry for raising the white flag, despite continuous attacks from Pakistan. Some even claimed that Rayudu basically asked India not to respond to the missile and drone strikes of Pakistan and just to stay put during the situation.

Rayudu rectifies tweet

The tweet, which was at first only a moralistic statement itself, was later rectified by Rayudu after seeing the widespread flak that he received over it. Some two hours later, Rayudu issued a clarification along with the previous statement. “Let’s remember — this isn’t a call for weakness, but a reminder of wisdom. Justice must stand firm, but never lose sight of humanity. We can love our nation fiercely and still hold compassion in our hearts. Patriotism and peace can walk hand in hand,” he added.

However, this made the case even more disastrous for Rayudu as fans felt this was merely a cover-up from him and that it wouldn’t change the fact that he had previously said. The clarification landed on the opposite side of what Rayudu had expected, and some advised him to keep his mouth shut rather than talking on such sensitive issues that concern the well-being of the nation.

However, he made a tweet on the Indian Army a few hours later, praising them for their valour and their selfless services, which keep the nation safe in these tough times. “Your sacrifices don’t go unnoticed. Your bravery is what keeps the tricolour flying high and our borders safe,” he wrote.

Ambati Rayudu has been facing the ire of social media users for making a peace-promoting tweet as he quoted Gandhi amid the ongoing military confrontation between India and Pakistan.  Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
