Mumbai: Following days of pre-wedding celebrations, the highly anticipated wedding of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant took place on Friday, July 12th, in Mumbai. Celebrities showcased their finest ethnic Indian attire, adding to the dazzling display of traditional fashion and celebratory spirit.
This prestigious Mumbai wedding boasted a guest list of renowned personalities from across the globe, including Bollywood stars and even Hollywood A-listers. Leading the arrivals were Bollywood powerhouses Deepika Padukone (expecting her first child) and Alia Bhatt, who stole the show with their stunning outfits and exquisite jewellery choices, once again proving their impeccable fashion sense.
Deepika Padukone’s choker from Sikh Empire
Deepika Padukone made a striking appearance in a custom-designed sindoori red anarkali by Torani, a colour traditionally associated with Indian weddings. Her ensemble was further elevated by a historically significant choker from Chand Begum Jewels. This choker, originally a bajuband, is believed to have belonged to the family of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, the ruler of the Sikh Empire.
Adding a layer of intrigue, the choker’s centrepiece is a large red spinel that bears a remarkable resemblance to the legendary Timur Ruby. Once a prized possession of Ranjit Singh and housed in the Lahore State treasury, the Timur Ruby is now part of the British Crown Jewels. A historical portrait of Sher Singh, Ranjit Singh’s son, even depicts him wearing a similar bajuband, further fueling speculation about the choker’s origins.
Alia Bhatt’s 160-year-old silk saree
Alia Bhatt opted for a timeless look in a 160-year-old pure silk saree from Manish Malhotra’s archival weave collection. The Ashavali weave, originating from Gujarat, features a real zari border intricately crafted with 99 per cent pure silver and real gold. Adding a modern touch, Alia paired the saree with a strapless bustier blouse. Her jewellery included a gold and emerald choker, jhumkis, a maang tika, and kadhas. Minimal makeup with kohl-lined eyes and a gajra-adorned bun completed her elegant look.
Deepika Padukone dazzled in a choker from the Sikh Empire, featuring a 150-carat ruby surrounded by white sapphires, highlighting Sikh artistry at Anant Ambani’s wedding. Meanwhile, Alia Bhatt graced the occasion in a 160-year-old silk saree, showcasing intricate craftsmanship and historical charm, adding to the grandeur of the event.
