New Delhi: Ange Postecoglou has been at the receiving end a lot of times for the performance of Tottenham Hotspurs. Recently, the 59-year-old noted that Premier League managers deserve a little more respect. Postecoglou came under heat during his side’s narrow 4-3 win over Manchester United in the quarter-final of Carabao Cup.
Critics felt that Postecoglou’s attacking tactics were one of the reasons behind Tottenham’s inconsistent performance in the season. The Lilywhites were on a five-match losing streak across competition before winning against Southampton and then Man United in the EFL Cup. In the United game, they were leading 3-0 until the 63rd minute before being reduced to 3-2 within seven minutes. Ultimately, a Heung Min-Son goal in the 88th minute just about edged them past United.

Postecoglou noted that he had been doing this job for the last 26 years and felt he deserved a little more “respect” describing the criticisms as borderline offensive and personal. The former Celtic manager noted that many of his fellow Premier League managers and former managers face the same kind of disrespect, noting examples of Unai Emery during his tenure at Arsenal and Nuno Santo when he was in charge of Spurs.
The manager from Australia noted that many were unhappy with his unconventional approach. Further, Postecolgu noted that some criticism were directed towards plainly for the sake of getting headlines. In the Premier League table, they are tenth, and so far, only the top two teams, Chelsea and Liverpool, have a better goal difference.
Tottenham are set to play Liverpool in the weekend and will also lock heads in the semifinal of the EFL Cup. Liverpool manager Arne Slot noted that Tottenham plays “exciting” football and deserves silverware for its attacking approach.
While Slot was full of praise, former Liverpool player Jamie Carragher didn’t like Tottenham’s tactical plan in the EFL Cup quarterfinal. Speaking to Sky Sports, Carragher noted that the Tottenham team maintained the same strategy for the entire duration of the game and didn’t change according to the situation.
Reacting to this, Postecloglou noted that he had been told that Carragher likes him as a person, and that was good enough for him. Further, Postecloglou said that he appreciates that football will always have a point of difference in approaches and tactical plans. However, he has said that if he finds any comment against him offensive, he will “call out” in public.
While the side was without ten players in te squad, Postecolgou noted that he was hopeful of having Destiny Udogie back from injury and Timo Werner to have recovered from illness when they host Liverpool.
After Tottenham Hotspurs’s inconsistent season so far, Ange Postecoglou has come under some heat for his attacking approach in the game. Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
