New Delhi: With the government announcing a seven-day mourning in honour of former prime minister Manmohan Singh, who passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2024, let’s see whether it is a public holiday for banks and stock market today (Friday).
Trends showed that several people are searching for a query ‘is today a holiday’. The government has not declared any holiday for government offices or banks. The stock exchanges BSE and NSE have not declared any holiday for today and the trading will continue as usual. People having work in banks can also visit the branches and get their work done. ATMs and Internet banking facilities of banks will also function as usual.
It may be noted that there is no official press release from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on whether banks will be closed on Friday. Karnataka and Telangana have announced a pubic holiday today (December 27). However, there is no official clarity whether banks will remain closed.
However, as per the RBI December 2024 holiday list, banks will remain closed in Nagaland for Christmas celebration.
The banks and stock markets were closed on the occasion of Christmas, i.e., December 25 (Wednesday). It may be noted that stock market will remain closed tomorrow as it is a Saturday. Banks across the country will also observe a holiday on December 28 as it is a fourth Saturday. RBI rules state that banks will remain closed on every second and forth Saturday.
Ex-PM Manmohan Singh passed away at the age of 92. His death was conformed by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi, where he was admitted in the Emergency ward on Thursday evening in a critical condition after “sudden loss of consciousness”.
