Kolkata: Despite full-scale conflict erupting between India and Pakistan, and schools remaining closed on May 9 in some of the states such as Jammu & Kashmir and Punjab, banks will remain operational in most of the states. Branches of banks will be closed in a few states but these closures will be for pre-scheduled holidays according to the Reserve Bank calendar and not due to the escalation of the conflict between the two neighbours.
The RBI holiday list shows that banks will have holidays between May 9 and May 12. While banks will be closed in West Bengal on May 9 due to the birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore, May 10 and 11 will be holidays for the banks throughout the country for weekend and banks will be closed in a number of states on May 12 on account of Buddha Purnima.
List of banks holidays in different states
May 9 (Friday): Birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore; banks closed in West Bengal
May 10-11 (Saturday, Sunday): Weekend holiday. May 10 will be a holiday since it is the second Saturday.
May 12 (Monday): Buddha Purnima. Banks will be closed in Agartala, Aizawl, Belapur, Bhopal, Dehradun, Itanagar, Jammu, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Raipur, Ranchi, Shimla and Srinagar.
The other days when the banks will be closed in the month of May 2025 are:
May 16: Sikkim state day
May 26: Birth anniversary of poet Kazi Nazrul Islam
May 29: Maharana Pratap Jayanti
Significantly, it must be mentioned that Reserve Bank of India did not order closing of any bank on May 7, when mock drills were carried out across the country following the intensification of hostilities between India and Pakistan. All banks across the country had normal operations.
Banks will be closed in some states of India due to some scheduled holidays and not due to the hostilities and armed conflict between India and Pakistan. Biz News Business News – Personal Finance News, Share Market News, BSE/NSE News, Stock Exchange News Today
