Arshdeep Singh on cusp of history with all-time record in T20 WC 2024 final against South Africa

New Delhi: Team India pacer Arshdeep Singh will be aiming to script history when India square off against South Africa in the highly-anticipated T20 World Cup 2024 final at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados on Saturday, June 29. Arshdeep is only three wickets away from breaking the all-time record for most wickets in a single edition of the T20 World Cup.

The left-arm pacer has been in fine form for India with the ball and has been consistently delivering with the new ball in the Powerplay. Arshdeep is currently the leading wicket-taker for India with 15 wickets from seven matches. He will be looking to surpass Afghanistan pacer Fazalhaq Farooqi to set the record for most wickets in a T20 World Cup.

Farooqi currently holds the record having scalped 17 wickets in the ongoing edition. He went past Sri Lanka all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga, who picked up 16 wickets in the T20 World Cup 2021. Former Sri Lanka spinner Ajantha Mendis is in the third spot having picked up 15 wickets in the 2012 T20 World Cup.

Arshdeep needs three wickets in the final against South Africa to go past Farooqi and script history. The left-arm pacer will hold the key to India’s chances in the final as he is once again expected to take the new ball with Jasprit Bumrah. Arshdeep will be hoping to get India off to a flyer with the ball and continue his impressive run in the summit clash.

India aim to end ICC trophy drought

India will be looking to bring an end to their 11-year ICC trophy drought in the T20 World Cup 2024 final against South Africa. The two teams have never met in a summit clash of an ICC event as the Proteas are playing their first-ever World Cup final. South Africa defeated India by five wickets with 2 balls to spare in the last meeting between the two teams in a T20 World Cup match which came in the last edition of the tournament in 2022.

India last won a major ICC trophy when they clinched the 2013 Champions Trophy title under MS Dhoni after beating England in the final.
