AUS vs ENG: Travis Head celebrates 6th ODI century in Chris Gayle style – WATCH

New Delhi: Australian batter Travis Head notched up a brilliant hundred during the run chase against England in the first ODI at Trent Bridge in Nottingham on Thursday. He scored his sixth ODI century and second against England in this format.

He took 92 balls to reach the milestone with the help of 14 boundaries and three maximums. Australia lost the wicket of their captain Mitchell Marsh in the fourth over. Head along with Steve Smith stitched a crucial 76-run partnership for the second wicket. Liam Livingstone got the wicket of Smith on 32 runs but Head batted well and stitched another 73-run partnership with Cameron Green.

Debutant Jacob Bethell dismissed Green on 32 runs but Head continued his outstanding batting and scored a great hundred in the first ODI. Head is a key player for Australia in the run-chase as they will look to take a lead in the five-match series.

England scored 315 runs in 49.4 overs

Earlier, England scored 315 runs in 49.4 overs against Australia after opting to bat first. Ben Dwarshuis took the first wicket in the eighth over, dismissing Phil Salt on 17 runs. Ben Duckett and Will Jacks stitched a 120-run partnership for the third wicket. Marnus Labuschagne denied Duckett from scoring a century by just 5 runs while Zampa dismissed Jacks on 62 runs.

Stand-in skipper Harry Brook got a good start to his innings but was dismissed by Labuschagne on 39 runs. Matthew Short and Adam Zampa dismissed Liam Livingstone and Jamie Smith to restrict England to 315 runs. Zampa and Labuschagne took three wickets each while Travis Head also picked up two in the match.

The T20I series between both teams ended in a 1-1 draw. The visitors won the first T20I by 28 runs but England made a brilliant comeback to win the second T20I. The third and last match of the series was abandoned due to rain in Manchester. Both teams will look to prepare for the upcoming Champions Trophy which is scheduled to take place in Pakistan from February 2025.
