Australian Woman Gangraped in Paris Days Before Olympics, CCTV Shows Her Seeking Help

Paris: An Australian woman was reportedly gangraped by five men in Paris just days before the upcoming Olympics, according to French police. The crime, which is under investigation, is said to have occurred after midnight on July 20.

CCTV footage captured the 25-year-old woman seeking refuge at a kebab shop following the traumatic incident. Media reports indicate that her dress was partially torn and worn inside out.

The woman had spent Friday night (July 19) drinking in the bars and clubs near the Moulin Rouge cabaret before the men reportedly approached her at an unspecified location.

According to a leading daily report, the woman informed the police that the five men, described as having an “African appearance,” gang-raped her around 5 am. She then managed to escape and seek shelter at a kebab shop.

CCTV footage showed the woman running into the shop, utterly terrified and asking the staff for help. Minutes later, a man enters the shop, and the woman points to him as one of the men who assaulted her.

The man pats the woman on the back before placing a food order. A staff member attempts to tackle the man, but he eventually leaves the kebab shop.

The shop owners and staff called emergency responders to attend to the woman, trying in vain to console the 25-year-old. Two officers then spoke with her about the ordeal before she was taken to a hospital.

According to the report, the woman was “disoriented and unable to speak a word of French” as she recounted the incident to the police. She could not provide details about the exact location or circumstances of the attack.

The incident occurred in the northern Pigalle district, with the 25-year-old reportedly seen wandering the streets “in a state of confusion and distress.”

The Paris Prosecutor’s Office stated that police are investigating the woman’s allegations and reviewing CCTV footage. No arrests have been made yet.

The Australian woman had reportedly booked a flight home for the day after the attack, but she is now staying in Paris to assist the police with the investigation.
