New Delhi: Ayatollah Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of Iran stated in a post on X (formerly Twitter), “We cannot consider ourselves to be Muslims if we are oblivious to the suffering that a Muslim is enduring in Myanmar, Gaza, India, or any other place.” The Ministry of External Affairs of India has strongly condemned Khamenei’s comment and stated it was ‘misinformed and unacceptable’. The Ministry also stated that countries which are commenting on the state of minorities should “look at their own record before making any observations about others”. Interesting facts about Ayatollah Khamenei

Seyyed Ali Hosseini Khamenei has been serving as Iran’s second Supreme Leader since 1989. Earlier, he was Iran’s third president from 1981 to 1989.
Khamenei has been the Supreme Leader of Iran for 35 years. In the Middle East, he is the longest-serving head of state. Also, after Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, he is Iran’s second-longest-serving leader of the last century.
During the reign of Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, Khamenei was arrested six times and was then sent to exile for three years. After the Shah was deposed following the Iranian revolution, he was the target of an attempted assassination in June 1981 which left him with a paralyzed right arm.
Khamenei controls the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, a multi-service primary branch of the Iranian Armed Forces. He formed close ties with the Coprs in the 1980s during the Iraq-Iran War and he elects and dismisses its commanders.
