‘Bambai se aaya mera dost’: Rashid’s post for Rohit goes viral after Afghanistan reach T20 WC semis

New Delhi: Afghanistan scripted one of the best underdogs’ stories in cricket after beating Bangladesh to qualify for their first-ever semi-final of a T20 World Cup on Tuesday, June 25. Afghanistan’s 8-run win against Bangladesh at the Arnos Vale Ground in St Vincent saw them become the second team to qualify for the semi-finals from Group 1 after Rohit Sharma-led Team India.

Both India and Afghanistan combined to knock Australia out of the tournament as Mitchell Marsh & Co. bowed out after back-to-back defeats in the Super Eight. Afghanistan stunned Australia in the second Super Eight game to end their unbeaten run in the tournament and push them to the brink of elimination. The onus was then on India to send Australia crashing by beating them in their final Super 8 game on Monday.

India did exactly that as captain Rohit Sharma led from the front with a sensational 44-ball 92 to power the Men in Blue to a 24-run win against the Aussies in St Lucia on Monday. Australia’s fate was later sealed by Afghanistan, who defeated Bangladesh in their final Super Eight game to join India in qualifying for the semis from Group 1.

It was a historic triumph for Afghanistan as they secured their maiden spot in the semi-final of a T20 World Cup. From being the minnows to underdogs, Afghanistan now stand just a couple of steps away from clinching glory in the T20 World Cup 2024. Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan shared a special post for Indian skipper Rohit Sharma on Instagram after his team qualified for the semi-finals of the showpiece event.

“Bamabi se aaya mera dost (My friend came from Bombay),” Rashid captioned the post as he shared a picture with Rohit on Instagram, Rohit & Co. did Afghanistan a favour by beating Australia which helped them qualify for the semi-finals.
