Dhaka: In a sudden turn of events, the Bangladesh interim government on Thursday issued an order calling back its ambassadors posted in the United States (US), Russia, Japan, Germany, Maldives, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to Dhaka. According to Bangladeshi media reports, the country’s Foreign Ministry issued an order on August 14, published on the Ministry’s website, stating that the ambassadors and the high commissioner in 7 nations have been transferred to Dhaka.
According to the notifications, all the ambassadors serving in the above-mentioned 7 countries were asked to leave their current duties and return to Dhaka immediately. Sources claimed that several staffers from Bangladesh High Command from New Delhi have also been called back to Dhaka.
As per the reports, the Bangladesh government has asked Ambassador Mohammad Imran in Washington, Ambassador Kamrul Hasan in Russia, Ambassador Javed Patwary in Saudi Arabia, Ambassador Shahabuddin Ahmed in Japan, Ambassador Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan in Germany, Ambassador Abu Zafar in the UAE, and High Commissioner Rear Admiral SM Abul Kalam Azad in the Maldives to return to Dhaka.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh’s International Crimes Tribunal has started an investigation against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and nine others on charges of genocide and crimes against humanity that took place from July 15 to August 5 during the students’ mass movement against her government.
A complaint was filed on Wednesday with the investigation agency of Bangladesh’s International Crimes Tribunal against Sheikh Hasina, Awami League general secretary and former road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader, former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, and several other prominent figures within the party.
The complainant’s lawyer Gazi MH Tamim confirmed on Thursday that the tribunal started the probe on Wednesday night, news agency PTI reported.
