New Delhi: Bangladesh handed Pakistan yet another humiliating defeat in the 2nd Test between the two sides at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi on Tuesday to clean sweep the hosts 2-0 and clinch a historic Test series victory. Bangladesh rode on crucial knocks from opener Zakir Hasan (40) and captain Najmul Hossain Shanto (38) to comfortably chase down the target of 185 runs in their 2nd innings and thrash Pakistan by six wickets.
After registering their first-ever Test win against the hosts at the same venue in the series opener, Bangladesh recorded their maiden Test series victory against Pakistan in their own backyard. It was another impressive all-round display from the visitors, who held their nerves during the run chase in their second innings to cruise to a historic win in Rawalpindi.
Resuming the proceedings at 42/0 on Day 4 in pursuit of the 185-run target, Bangladesh got off to a shaky start as they lost Hasan early in the first session after he departed on 40 off 39 balls. Mir Hamza broke the 58-run opening stand between Hasan and Shadman Islam (24). It was Bangladesh’s first 50-run opening partnership in Tests since December 2022.
The Pakistan pacer bowled good lengths and tested the Bangladesh batters with some disciplined bowling but their efforts were not enough. Bangladesh captain Shanto played a captain’s knock under pressure as he scored a valuable 38 and combined with Mominul Haque (34) to share a match-winning 57-run stand for the third wicket.
The partnership between Shanto and Mominul put Bangladesh in the driver’s seat as the game turned completely in their favour, burying any remaining hopes of a comeback from Pakistan. Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan shared an unbeaten stand for the 5th wicket to take the visitors over the line comfortably, helping Bangladesh pull off a memorable 2-0 series victory.

Bangladesh pacers put Pakistan to the sword in Rawalpindi
Bangladesh pacers wreaked havoc against Pakistan in the hosts’ second innings to bring the visitors back into the contest after conceding a slender lead in their first innings. Young Nahid Rana and Hasan Mahmud combined to run riot as they picked up 9 wickets between them to derail Pakistan’s second innings.
Nahid proved too hot to handle for the Pakistan pacers with his raw pace and brilliant line and length. Nahid was arguably the stand-out bowler for Bangladesh as he picked up a 4-wicket haul in the second innings and bagged the prized scalps of the likes of Pakistan captain Shan Masood, Babar Azam and Saud Shakeel.
Mahmud was also exceptional with the ball in the second innings as he dismissed Pakistan opener Abdullah Shafique cheaply on 3 before removing Khurram Shahzad on a duck to rattle the hosts’ top order. He then ran through the tail to complete a magnificent fifer. Thanks to Mahmud and Nahid’s heroics, Bangladesh managed to skittle out for a low-key 172 runs in their second innings.
Litton Das the hero for Bangladesh
Pakistan were in a strong position in the 2nd Test at one stage after reducing Bangladesh to 26/6 in their first innings. However, Litton Das turned out to be the saviour for the visitors as he produced one of the fines Test knocks of his career to rescue his team. Litton slammed a brilliant knock of 138 runs and combined with Mehidy Hasan Miraz (78) to help Bangladesh stage an incredible fightback.
The duo shared a 165-run stand for the 7th wicket as Bangladesh managed to finish with 262 runs on the board, in response to Pakistan’s first-innings total of 274 runs, conceding a slender lead of only 12 runs. The onus was on Bangladesh bowlers to put Pakistan under pressure in their second innings and the pacers did exactly that by skittling out the hosts for 172 runs, ensuring a low-key target of 185 runs for Shanto’s men in their second innings.
The writing was on the wall for Pakistan after Bangladesh openers Hasan and Islam helped the visitors end Day 4 on 42/0 in their pursuit of 185 runs. The hosts hoped for rain to come to their rescue in Rawalpindi. However, fortune favoured the brave as Bangladesh cruised to their target to win the Test match by 6 wickets and complete a remarkable 2-0 Test series victory.
