Bangladesh recall Mehidy Hasan, Shoriful Islam returns for T20Is against India

New Delhi: Spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz and pacer Shoriful Islam were included in Bangladesh’s T20I squad for their upcoming three-match series against India.

The two teams are currently engaged in the second and final Test match two-match series in Kanpur after India won the first Test in Chennai.

Mehidy was recalled to the T20I side after 14 months, after he missed the T20 World Cup in June. The 26-year-old’s last engagement with his national team was in a bilateral series against Afghanistan in July of last year.

Mehidy will bolster the team’s spin attack that already has Mahedi Hasan, Rakibul Hasan and Rishad Hossain. Apart from Mehidy, left-arm spinner Rakibul Hasan and left-handed batter Parvez Hossain Emon also returns after not being part of the team’s T20 World Cup campaign.

Fit after a groin injury sidelined him from their win over Pakistan in the second Test and the ongoing Test series against India, Shoriful Islam will strengthen the pace attack that has Mustafizur Rahman, Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Taskin Ahmed.

Najmul Hossain Shanto leads the 15-member squad that has three upcoming talents in Towhid Hridoy, Tanzid Hassan Tamim and Towhid Hridoy. The experienced Litton Das is the expected to be the preferred wicketkeeper ahead of Anik.

The T20I series begins at the New Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium in Gwalior on October 6 with Delhi and Hyderabad scheduled to host the second and third matches on October 9 and 12, respectively.

All-rounder Mahmudullah Riyad, with 2394 runs and 43 wickets in 138 matches, is their most experienced player of the chosen team.
