New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially inaugurated the new National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. This world-class facility is the result of BCCI Secretary Jay Shah’s vision to nurture the future of cricket. The new academy will now be called the BCCI Centre of Excellence.

Spanning over 40 acres, the new facility is equipped with three cricket grounds and 86 pitches, including both indoor and outdoor options for the players. The main ground (Ground A) features an 85-yard boundary with 13 meticulously maintained pitches which are made from Mumbai red soil.

The ground is equipped with advanced floodlighting and broadcasting facilities. It can host and telecast matches under lights while Ground B and C serve as dedicated practice grounds with 75-yard boundaries, featuring 11 pitches made of Mandya soil pitches and 9 from Black Cotton soil in Kalahandi, Odisha.

To ensure minimal rain disruption during the match, the facility offers an innovative subsurface drainage system that ensures quick recovery after rainfall. The grounds are equipped with white picket fencing and lush green seating mounds, evoking the beauty of English county grounds. This facility goes beyond cricket as the BCCI is committed to supporting athletes from various sports.

World-class indoor practice facility

The Centre offers an outstanding 45 Outdoor Net pitches for practice organized into nine clusters, featuring Mumbai’s red soil, Mandya’s soil, Kalahandi’s black cotton soil, and concrete pitches. All the pitches are separated by safety nets which are sourced from the UK. There is also a dedicated fielding practice area and six outdoor running tracks with natural grass and Mondo synthetic material.

The world-class practice facility features eight pitches with high-quality turf from the UK and Australia with an 80-meter common run-up area. Integrated cameras are in place to capture play for analytical purposes, allowing athletes to train at any time regardless of weather or time.

Quality dressing rooms and press conference area

The South Pavilion is a G+2 structure covering 45,000 square feet area which includes one of the largest dressing rooms at nearly 3,000 square feet and is equipped with complete a jacuzzi, lounge, massage room, kit room, and restrooms for the players. It will also showcase a carefully curated Hall of Fame celebrating the legacy of Indian cricket.

Other features include commentator and match referee rooms with advanced broadcasting facilities. A spacious press conference area and a VIP lounge and dining area. The Dining and Dormitory block, a G+1 building with a 15,000 square-foot provided food and accommodation for staff.

Medicine Block and Hi-tech Sports Science

The Sports Science & Medicine (SSM) Block spans across 16,000 square feet featuring a top-quality gym. It has four athletic tracks and top-quality Mondo rubber flooring. The facility also has a physiotherapy rehab gym, sports science and medicine lab equipped with the latest technology. The state-of-the-art centre also features a recovery area with a jacuzzi, sauna, steam bath, underwater pool spa, and cold shower area.

There’s also an 80-seater meeting room, a coaches’ area, and a 25×12-meter swimming pool. To enhance the quality of training sessions, presentations and fitness classes, the block features dedicated audio-visual and projector facilities.
