New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has issued stern directives to all the state associations regarding the use of their grounds ahead of the much-awaited Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 edition. The Indian cricket board has instructed the associations not to even let the IPL franchises use these grounds before the cash-rich league begins.
According to a report in Cricbuzz, the Indian cricket board wants that the IPL venues to be in perfect conditions and the outfields in optimal condition ahead of the next season. The report further mentions that the BCCI has also issued a directive that the IPL centres should not be allowed to be used for any private celebrity events, which includes the Legends League matches.
BCCI’s directive to state associations
The report further quoted BCCI’s mail, which was sent by the Indian cricket board to all the IPL centres. Here are some directives that were issued:
- The main square and outfield may be used for the Ranji Trophy knockout games, should any be scheduled at the venue.
- The main square and outfield should not be used for any local matches, legends league, celebrity cricket or provided to the IPL franchises for practice sessions.
- The directive further read that this is important to preserve the pitch and outfield for the upcoming IPL games.
The report additionally mentions that the mail has been sent to Mumbai Cricket Association, Gujarat Cricket Association, Tamil Nadu Cricket Association, Karnataka State Cricket Association, Hyderabad Cricket Association, Cricket Association of Bengal, Delhi District Cricket Association, Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association, Punjab Cricket Association and Rajasthan Cricket Association, which are all the primary venues for IPL.
The letter has also been sent to Assam Cricket Association and Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association as Guwahati and Dharamsala will also host few matches. Eden Gardens in Kolkata is being used for the quarterfinals of Ranji Trophy, among some other venues and that is the reason why the BCCI has issued a precautionary notice. The IPL 2025 will reportedly start on March 24.
