BCCI to offer prize money to players in junior and women tournaments

New Delhi: The Board of Control for cricket in India announced on Monday that it would introduce prize money system in women’s and junior domestic tournaments.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah said that cash award will be given to player-of-the-match and player-of-the-tournament in every junior domestic competitions, adding that in men’s cricket, prize money will also be given to player of the match in Vijay Hazare and Syed Mushtaq Ali tournaments.

“We are introducing prize money for the Player of the Match and Player of the Tournament in all Women’s and Junior Cricket tournaments under our Domestic Cricket Programme,” Shah wrote on his X account.

“Additionally, prize money will be awarded for the Player of the Match in the Vijay Hazare and Syed Mushtaq Ali tournaments for Senior Men. This initiative aims to recognize and reward outstanding performances in the domestic circuit.

“A heartfelt thank you to the Apex Council for their unwavering support in this endeavour. Together, we are fostering a more rewarding environment for our cricketers. Jai Hind,” under our Domestic Cricket Programme,” the top official added.

Cash rewards doubled last year

The BCCI had increased the amount of prize money in domestic tournaments last year, with the Ranji Trophy winners getting Rs 5 crore.

The cash reward for Irani Cup was doubled to Rs 50 lakh for winners, with the runners-up team getting Rs 25 lakh.

Similarly, Duleep Trophy champions got Rs 1 crorw while the beaten finalist received Rs 50 lakh. Vijay Hazare Trophy winners got Rs 1 crore while the losing finalist got Rs 50 lakh.
