Ben Stokes to undergo crucial test on hamstring injury before Pakistan tour

New Delhi: Injured Ben Stokes will undergo a scan on his troublesome hamstring to determine his fitness ahead of England’s three-match Test series against Pakistan. The England skipper has been out of action since August and missed their 2-1 home Test series win against Sri Lanka.

Stokes has undergone rehab and then began training during his lay off time and also took part in the Celebrity Pro-Am at the PGA Championship golf event at Wentworth.

The 33-year-old will undergo tests to monitor his recovery and status of recovery from the injury and is part of England’s routine injury management system.

England are keen to ensure that Stokes makes a full recovery and is not rushed into returning to action with a sight at the first Test against Pakistan that begins on on October 7.

“I’d rather take an extra two weeks than run the risk of potentially doing something worse and then putting myself out of the game for longer,” Stokes had said earlier this month.

The all-rounder is expected to be part of England 17-man squad that will travel to Pakistan on October 1. In his absence against Sri Lanka, Ollie Pope took over the captaincy duties and could continue in Pakistan if Stokes remains injured out.

If Stokes is passed fit to play, Englnd would also have to assess the extent of his participation as he has played only as a batter the past to protect his dodgy knee.

It could mean England have to reorganise their top order, to ensure Stokes bat up as a regular batter and could mean they have to go in with a four bowler strategy aided by Joe Root’s part time off-spin.
