New Delhi: Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) recently launched the Bima Sakhi Yojana, which aims to train rural women as insurance agents. The scheme enables the women to get insurance related training and also be eligible to get stipend and commission. The yojana’s objective is to empower women and increase the reach of insurance in rural areas. Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched this scheme on December 9, 2024. So far, more than 50,000 women have registered under this scheme.

Bima Sakhi Yojana allows eligible women to be trained for 3 years on LIC’s insurance products, financial literacy and insurance needs. After completion of 3 years of training, the eligible women can work as LIC agents. Being an insurance agent will require them to help people in their village or community by explaining the benefits of insurance. LIC has set a target of making 1,00,000 women Bima Sakhi under this scheme and till now LIC has issued appointment letters to around 27 thousand women for this.

LIC Bima Sakhi Scheme Eligibility

The age of the woman should be between 18 to 70 years.
The women should have a minimum qualification – 10th class pass.
Women living in rural areas will be given priority.

The following women are ineligible to apply for this scheme:

  • Women from the families of the existing agents and employees of LIC cannot enroll for Bima Sakhi Yojana. Relatives include spouses, children and stepchildren, parents, sisters, brothers and father-in-law.
  • Women applying for the LIC scheme should not be retired employees and former agents of LIC.
  • Existing agents are ineligible to apply for the scheme

Bima Sakhi Yojana Stipend details

  • First year: Rs 7,000 per month
  • Second year: Rs 6,000 per month (if at least 65% of first year policy is active)
  • Third year: Rs 5,000 per month (if at least 65% of the policy is active in the second year)

  • Click on the button ‘Click here for Bima Sakhi’
  • Submit the information required like name, date of birth, mobile number etc
  • Next step is to click on ‘Submit’.
  • Select the state and city and complete the application process.

 Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) Bima Sakhi Yojana initiative is designed to empower women aged 18-70 years, who are Class X pass.
