New Delhi: It was a memorable day for Mohamed Shiraz, the rising star of Sri Lankan cricket, who received his maiden international cap ahead of the first ODI between Sri Lanka and India on Friday, August 2. Shiraz made his debut in the ongoing match at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
The 29-year-old was included in the national squad as a cover for injured fast bowler Mathisha Pathirana, who was forced to pull out of the ODI squad following an injury he suffered during the recently concluded T20I series vs India.

While destiny played a huge role in Shiraz’s selection, his performances in the domestic circuit were the main reason behind his inclusion in the national set-up.
Shiraz has taken 80 wickets in 47 matches at an astonishing average of 17.52 in List A cricket. He also boasts a superb first-class cricket record, with 125 wickets in 49 matches, at an economy rate of 3.65, and an average of 31. He has proved his worth in shorter format as well, claiming 23 wickets in 23 T20 games in the Sri Lankan domestic circuit.
